The Lula government, political alliances in government and congress, and the challenges of Brazilian democracy
With the objective of analyzing the developments of the 2022 Brazilian elections, the anti-democratic activities of Bolsonarism and the formation and conditions for governance at the beginning of the Lula government, the PhD in Political Science of Iscte – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa takes place on Thursday (3/9), at 6 pm, the conference “The Lula government, political alliances in government and congress, and the challenges of Brazilian democracy”.
With the participation of professor Leonardo Avritzer (UFMG), the conference will discuss the challenges that marked the first months of President Lula’s government, in a complex governance arrangement, after the relevant results of the right in the Senate and in the Chamber, especially the meanings of the anti-democratic demonstrations of the 8th of January.
A professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Leonardo Avritzer is responsible for important works on Latin American democracies and on the Bolsonaro government, being the author, among others, of the book “Politics and Anti-Politics: The Crisis of the Bolsonaro Government” and organizer, along with Fábio Kerche and Marjorie Marona, of “Bolsonaro Government: democratic setback and political degradation”. More recently, he organized, along with researchers Eliara Santana and Rachel Callai Bragatto, the book “Eleições 2022 e a reconstrução da democracia no Brasil”
