Television coverage of the war in Ukraine
“Television coverage of the war in Ukraine” will be the subject of debate in the 2023/2024 cycle of doctoral debates of the Political Science PhD at Iscte – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, with the participation of CNN International journalist Filipe Caetano. The conference will take place on Monday 6th November 2023, at 6pm, at Iscte.
Started in February 2022, the war in Ukraine had the largest permanent media coverage in the history the Portuguese media, being it a complex event for measuring the impacts on the media, on strategic and political analysis and on Portuguese society. The conference will discuss the news, the reports, the commentators and the criteria for choosing them and the diversity and ideological pluralism on TV, as well as the effort of rigour and informative balance in a war like this.
As the only Portuguese journalist to have been in Ukraine and Russia during the conflict between the two countries, Filipe Caetano currently works for TVI and CNN-Portugal, but also has experience in the press, radio, online and television. A specialist in international affairs and a special envoy in various places around the world, Filipe has a degree in Social Communication from the Escola Superior de Jornalismo do Porto and a master’s and doctorate in Political Science from Iscte.
