Screening of the Ukrainian film “Donbass”
Closing the 2022 conference cycle, the PhD in Political Science at ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, with the support and support of CIES-Iscte, CEI-Iscte and Observatory of Democracy and Political Representation (CIES-ODRP), takes place on the second Friday, November 28, at 6 pm, the screening of the Ukrainian film “Donbass”, by Sergei Loznitsa.
Through the seventh art, the conference seeks to discuss the context that precedes the current war between Russia and Ukraine, which takes place especially in the Donbass region. Presented in 2018 at the Cannes Film Festival, the drama portrays, in several episodes, real events that took place between 2014 and 2015, in the region that was then marked by a hybrid war that was then perpetrated by separatist groups.
“Donbass” opened the Un Certain Regard section of the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, when its director, Sergei Loznitsa, won the Un Certain Regard award for Best Director of the festival, later Loznitsa would also be awarded the Silver Pyramid at the 40th International Cairo Film Festival. “Donbass” was also selected for Best Foreign Film at the 91st Academy Awards, without being nominated, and received the Best Film Award at the 49th Indian International Film Festival.
“Donbass” is distributed in Portugal by Midas Filmes and features Tamara Yatsenko, Irina Zayarmiuk, Grigory Masliuk, Boris Kamorzin, Lyudmila Smorodina, in addition to Sergei Loznitsa’s direction.
