Rendez Vous with America – the US electoral system
On Monday (09/01), at 6pm, in the auditorium B203 (at Iscte’s Building II), the Observatory of Democracy and Political Representation will hold the seminar “Rendez-Vous with America – the US electoral system”, with the presentation of the US electoral and party system by Professor Patrick Siegler-Lathrop, based on his book “Rendez-Vous with America: an Explanation of the US Election System”.
The seminar will cover topics such as the Structure of US Presidential Elections, the characteristics of the electoral college, and the democratic system with two dominant parties. The commentary will be held by Professor José Gomes André, with the mediation by Professor André Freire, with this conference open to the public. This seminar will be focusing mainly on the current political situation in the USA.
Patrick Siegler-Lathrop is a professor and president of the American Club of Lisbon, worked for 10 years as a visiting professor at INSEAD and the Dauphine University of Paris, and also taught at the Católica School of Business & Economics in Lisbon. His book explains, in simple terms, the complicated US presidential and congressional electoral systems.
José Gomes André holds a PhD in Political Philosophy from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Lisbon, where he is a visiting professor, teaching courses in the areas of Political Philosophy, History of Contemporary Ideas, and European Studies. He is the author of several articles on American Federalism and Political Philosophy.
