Launch of the Book “Elections, Parties, and Political Representation” by André Freire
On October 28th, at 6 PM, the book “Elections, Parties, and Political Representation” by André Freire, Director of the Observatory of Democracy and Political Representation and Full Professor at Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon, will be launched. Published by Gradiva, the work promises to provide a deep analysis of the foundations of representative democracy.
Among other aspects, the book presents structuring parameters that shape the current political system and addresses the insufficiencies and limitations faced by these models, as well as the tensions and crises that may arise during their implementation. According to the author, the topic of political representation is underexplored in Portuguese academia, both in its theoretical and practical dimensions, making his work an important addition for those studying the mechanisms of democratization.
The launch will be an opportunity to discuss crucial issues regarding the functioning of parties and elections today, as well as to hear the author’s reflections on the state of political representation in Portugal. The event will feature contributions from Marina Costa Lobo, Research Coordinator and Director of ICS-UL, Marcos Lisi, Associate Professor at FSH-UNL, and Helena Rafael from Gradiva Publishing.
