
Contested Solidarities: A Roundtable Discussion
On March 13, 2025, at 3:30 PM, the Seminar on Social Movements and Political Action will be held online, with the theme “Contested Solidarities: A Roundtable Discussion.”
The seminar will explore the complexities surrounding solidarity movements in different contexts and from various analytical perspectives, with contributions from three speakers: Nino Zhgenti, Associate Professor at the Free University of Tbilisi and member of the European Consortium for Political Research, who has focused on social protests in Georgia; Pierre Monfort, Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Leicester and member of the Council of European Studies, who researches social movements and migration studies; and Didem Türkoğlu, Assistant Professor at Kadir Has University and member of the European Sociological Association, who has concentrated on social movements, political polarization, and social inequalities.
This event is part of the Social Movements and Political Action Seminar Series, organized by Guya Accornero, Tiago Carvalho, and Rafael Pinheiro Lopes from CIES-Iscte. The CIES-Iscte Social Movements and Political Action Seminars are held monthly and promote a multidisciplinary reflection on topics related to social movements and various forms of political action, militancy, and activism.
