Ana Espírito-Santo selected as visiting professor at Georgetown University

The Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) has announced that Professor Ana Espírito-Santo, researcher at CIES-Iscte and lecturer at Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon, will be one of the next visiting professors at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., under the programme run in partnership with the university’s Department of Government.

The programme aims to strengthen ties between Portuguese and American academia by giving Portuguese professors the opportunity to teach for a semester at one of the most prestigious higher education institutions in Political Science and International Relations.

Ana Espírito-Santo holds a PhD in Political and Social Sciences from the European University Institute. She is an Associate Professor at Iscte and a full researcher at CIES-Iscte, where she is part of the coordination of the Politics and Citizenship research group, which works closely with the Observatory of Democracy and Political Representation. Her research focuses mainly on political representation and comparative politics.

During the spring 2026 semester, Ana Espírito-Santo will teach a course on political attitudes and behaviour at Georgetown, sharing her experience and research with American students and faculty. The appointment is both a recognition of her academic career and an opportunity to deepen scientific and cultural exchange between Portugal and the United States.
