In an article published on the Who Governs Europe platform, the directors of the Observatory of Democracy and Political Representation, José Santana Pereira and Guya Accornero, analyze the impact and current configuration of the Portuguese political landscape following the legislative elections of May 18, 2025 — the third in just over three years.

In addition to highlighting the consolidation of the right-wing bloc as the parliamentary majority and the shrinking of the left, the authors emphasize the tripolarization of the Portuguese Parliament, a consequence of the cordon sanitaire around the radical right, which had until then been maintained by the center-right.
