Portugal after the elections <\/b><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-34f7f235 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"34f7f235\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In an article published on the Italian platform <a href=\"https:\/\/nesde.eu\/publications\/\">Network for the Study of Democracies (NeSDe)<\/a>, the directors of the Observatory of Democracy and Political Representation, Guya Accornero and Jos\u00e9 Santana Pereira, analyze the impacts of the May 18, 2025 legislative elections and propose a reflection on whether a Portuguese path to populism has been established.<\/p><p>Among other topics, Accornero and Santana Pereira point out that, unlike Spain and Greece, the economic crisis in Portugal did not result in the emergence of a new \u201ccompetitor\u201d capable of challenging bipolarism and disputing the government with the two parties of the \u201ccentral bloc.\u201d However, the Portuguese political landscape changed in 2019 with the entry into parliament of Chega, Livre, and Iniciativa Liberal (IL).
