Voices from the Margins
On Wednesday, October 18, at 5 p.m., a new session of the Social Movements and Political Action Seminar will take place, with the theme “Voices from the Margins – popular organization and political participation on the periphery of Rio de Janeiro”, with the participation of Bruno Oliveira, a professor at Unirio’s School of Social Work and coordinator of the Center for Studies and Research on Popular Spaces and Favelas.
In the current edition, the seminar will discuss popular organization and political participation, taking into account the experiences of collective organization of residents of the periphery of Rio de Janeiro, which took place in November 2014 with the Homeless Workers’ Movement (MTST). Bruno Oliveira has a degree in Social Work and a Master’s and PhD in Social Work from the Graduate Program in Social Work at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He has experience in Social Work, working mainly on the following topics: human rights, territories, participation and social movements.
Organized by Guya Accornero and Tiago Carvalho, the Social Movements and Political Action Seminar takes place monthly and promotes multidisciplinary reflection on issues related to social movements and different forms of political action, dialoguing different perspectives, methodologies and approaches
