Urban Art (in Portugal): aesthetic and political dimensions
On Monday 13 November 2023, the PhD in Political Science at Iscte – Insituto Universitário de Lisboa will hold another session of its cycle of doctoral debates, this time on the theme of “Urban Art (in Portugal)”, with the participation of the architect and curator of urban art, Lara Seixo Rodrigues.
The conference will address the history, technique and aesthetics of urban art, sharing national and international examples, enabling reflection on artistic and cultural creation in public spaces and the necessity of effective intersectoral policies.
Lara Seixo Rodrigues has a degree in architecture from FA-UTL and UPC-ETSAB, in Lisbon and Barcelona, and was the creator of WOOL | Covilhã Arte Urbana, the first festival of these expressions in Portugal, as well as LATA 65 – Urban Art Workshop for the Elderly; MURALIZA | Cascais Mural Art Festival (2014 – 2016); ESTAU | Estarreja Urban Art; Conquista o Sonho x FPF (2018); FAZUNCHAR (Figueiró dos Vinhos) or No Walls Oeiras (2021). She was a member of the Reflection Group on the Future of Portugal and the GUARDA 2027 programming team, is a member of the Central Peripheries working group and the driving group of the Ibero-American Urban Art Network and founded MISTAKER MAKER | Plataforma de Intervenção Artística.
