Popular Protest, Political Opportunities and Change in Africa
Debating the book “Popular Protest, Political Opportunities and Change in Africa”, from the Routledge Contemporary Africa series, the next Seminar on Social Movements and Political Action will take place on February 29, in a hybrid format, at ICS ULisboa and via Link ZOOM, starting at 14:30. The event is organized by Guya Accornero, Tiago Carvalho (CIES-Iscte) and Edalina Sanches (ICS-ULisboa), in a partnership between CIES-Iscte and SPARC (Research Group on Social and Political Attitudes at ICS-ULisboa).
The event will be attended by the publication’s editor, Edalina Rodrigues Sanches (ICS-ULisboa) and professors Zachariah Mampilly, Department of Political Science, City University of New York; María Ángeles Alaminos Hervás, Departamento de Estudios Internacionales, Universidad Loyola; Oscar Mateos, Facultat de Comunicació i Relacions Internacionals Blanquerna, Ramon Llull University.
“Popular Protest, Political Opportunities and Change in Africa” offers a new analysis of the third wave of popular protests in Africa, focusing on the complex dynamics between political change and continuity in contemporary Africa. The book is open access and can be downloaded free.
Organized by Guya Accornero and Tiago Carvalho, the Social Movements and Political Action Seminar takes place monthly and promotes multidisciplinary reflection on issues related to social movements and different forms of political action, dialoguing different perspectives, methodologies and approaches.
