SUMMARY:On the reletionship between age and conspiracy beliefs
DESCRIPTION:On Monday (13/11/2023) at 12 noon, the Observatory of Democracy and Political Representation will host researcher Daniel Stockemer for the seminar “On the relationship between age and conspiracy beliefs”. Professor Patrícia Calca will be moderating the discussion.\nThe conference will debate this relationship, looking at cross-sectional data from six countries, considering the direction and strength of this relationship. In his research, Stockemer shows that there is a strong negative association between a person’s age and their conspiracy beliefs and that younger individuals have a greater propensity for activism and lower self-esteem, which would explain a significant part of their beliefs in conspiracy theories.\nDaniel Stockemer has been a Senior Lecturer in the School of Political Studies at the University of Ottawa since 2021 and his main research focus is the fundamental challenges facing major democracies, including the effects of migration on political attitudes, the populist tide, transformations in elections and the determinants of vote choice, and the unequal representation of various population groups.  Since 2019 he has been editor of the International Political Science Review and, since 2020, of the Springer Book Series in Electoral Politics\n
