SUMMARY:Making Politics. An Ethnography of the Assembly of the Republic
DESCRIPTION:On Monday (13/03), at 6 pm, at the conference “Making Politics. An Ethnography of the Assembly of the Republic”, organized by the PhD in Political Science at Iscte – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, anthropologist and sociologist João Mineiro discusses, from the polysemic character of the concept and idea of politics, the particular understanding of the politics underlying life within the parliament and how it is constructed, shared and reproduced.\nJoão Mineiro’s presentation will be based on the ethnographic research he carried out in the Assembly of the Republic, centered on the interactions between deputies, advisors, employees, journalists and citizens and will highlight some of the theoretical, methodological and ethical challenges of the research, as well as some of its main conclusions.\nJoão Mineiro holds a PhD in Anthropology and a Master’s in Sociology from Iscte – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa and is a researcher integrated at the Center for Research in Anthropology (CRIA-Iscte)being the author, among others, of the book “Making Politics: an Ethnography of Assembly of the Republic (Afrontamento, 2022)”.\nThe conference will be moderated by Professor André Freire, coordinator of the PhD in Political Science and director of the Observatory of Democracy and Political Representation (ODRP), and will have the support of the PhDs in Political Science and International Studies, ODRP, CIES – Iscte and CEI – Iscte.\n
