DESCRIPTION:Tiago Carvalho, from CIES-Iscte and the Social Movements Research Network of the Council of European Studies, is going to participate on Monday (06/03), at 21h (Lisbon time) in the debate organized by Cornell University “Contesting Autocracy: Lessons from Democratic Social Movements in Portugal, Italy, and Chile”.\nThe panel will discuss the lessons left by democratic social movements in Portugal, Italy, and Chile and analyze the way they have opened up autocratic regimes and paved the way for democratic transitions. Besides Tiago Carvalho, Cornell University professors Sidney Tarrow and Ken Roberts will participate in the debate, while Rachel Beatty Riedl, also a professor at the university, will moderate the discussion.\nThe event is hosted by Cornell University’s Institute for European Studies in collaboration with the Einaudi Center’s Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies and the Department of Government.
